INTRODUCING AIM'S FUTURE SOUNDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2021

 

Our new Future Sounds Scholarship Program aims to identify and reward five of the best young musicians or music entrepreneurs in Australia! We're looking for future leaders across five key music categories: Innovation, Indigenous Music, Songwriting, Performance, and New Sounds in Music.

Each recipient will receive a scholarship up to the value of $20,000 to study an accredited course at the Australian Institute of Music in 2021.

CATEGORIES

    What is it?

    The Innovation Scholarship is open to a young music entrepreneur who:

    • Has a musical concept that might change the way we think about or listen to music and/or;
    • Has a unique way of getting their art to the audience.

     

    Who should apply? 

    This scholarship may be for you if you are an innovative thinker with big ideas on how to disrupt the status quo. You are passionate, creative and eager to transform your business ideas into reality. 

     

    Submission Requirements

    You should submit a business plan for an innovative idea that leverages music in some way to create a potential business. Ideas will be judged against the criteria of creativity, viability and the potential to become a real business.

     

    What you will receive

    Up to $20,000 towards fees in an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate course at the Australian Institute of Music. Scholarships recipients must commence study by no later than May, 2021.

    Recipients will also receive special preference to gain work experience in the AIM Innovation Hub as well as additional support for their startup if they decide to pursue an idea after their studies.

    What is it?

    The New Sounds Scholarship is open for a young performer, composer, producer or audio enthusiast who is:

     

    • Performing music in unique or innovative ways; and/or,
    • Composing music using technology in new or innovative ways; and/or,
    • Producing and/or mixing music using unique or innovative techniques.

     

    Who should apply?

    This scholarship may be for you if you are a composer and/or producer who is using existing or new technologies to achieve interesting musical sounds that are creative and original, or you might be a performer who utilises technology to enhance your performance or recordings in interesting ways, or perhaps you play an instrument in a new, creative way.

     

    Submission Requirements

    You should submit one audio visual recording of no more than five minutes in duration, together with a short, written summary of your compositional, production or performance methods and future aspirations (no more than 200 words).

    Your submission piece may be existing repertoire or an original work.

     

    What you will receive

    Up to $20,000 towards fees in an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate course at the Australian Institute of Music. Scholarships recipients must commence study by no later than May, 2021.

     

    What is it?

    The Performance Scholarship is open for a young performer in any genre or style who:

    Demonstrates exceptional musicianship and creativity on a single instrument.

     

    Who should apply?

    This scholarship may be for you if you are a performer who is passionate about achieving excellence in creative performance and play a traditional or non-traditional instrument.

    You may perform in any style or genre.

     

    Submission Requirements

    You should submit one audio visual recording of no more than five minutes in duration, together with a short, written summary of your musical experience and future aspirations (no more than 200 words).

    Your performance piece may be repertoire from your chosen genre or an original work.

     

    What you will receive

    Up to $20,000 towards fees in an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate course at the Australian Institute of Music. Scholarships recipients must commence study by no later than May, 2021.

    What is it?

    The Indigenous Music Scholarship is awarded to a highly accomplished performer, composer, producer or music entrepreneur who identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and who:

     

    • Performs, composes or produces music in any genre that is unique or innovative; and/or,
    • Performs, composes or produces music that demonstrates exceptional musicianship; and/or,
    • Performs or produces music utilising influences or practice that you identify as indigenous.

     

    Who should apply?

    This scholarship may be for you if you identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and are a performer, composer, producer or music entrepreneur who is passionate about achieving excellence in a creative music pursuit.

     

    Submission Requirements

    You should submit one audio visual recording of no more than five minutes in duration, together with a short, written summary of your musical and life experience and future aspirations (no more than 200 words).

    Your submission may include repertoire from your chosen genre or an original work.

     

    What you will receive

    Up to $20,000 towards fees in an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate course at the Australian Institute of Music. Scholarships recipients must commence study by no later than May, 2021.

    What is it?

    The Songwriting Scholarship is awarded to an individual who demonstrates:

    • Exceptional ability in songwriting ability including lyrics, melody and accompaniment; and/or
    • Exceptional ability in an aspect of songwriting, including one or more areas of lyrics, melody and accompaniment.
    • Exceptional ability in songwriting production techniques, for example instrument or tone colour selection or production and mixing techniques.

     

    Who Should Apply?

    An exceptional young songwriter who has a strong message, melody or sound to convey, and who is committed to improving and honing your musical works in a collaborative and progressive musical environment.

     

    Submission requirements

    You should submit one audio visual recording of no more than five minutes in duration, together with a short, written summary of your musical and life experience and future aspirations (no more than 200 words).

    Your submission must include repertoire that is original.

     

    What you will receive

    Up to $20,000 towards fees in an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate course at the Australian Institute of Music. Scholarships recipients must commence study by no later than May, 2021.

    Pre-existing Scholarships

    Below are a list of AIM's pre-existing scholarships available to both Domestic and International applicants and current students. For information regarding how to apply, contact our Student Recruitment team here.

    Description

    Available to high achieving domestic students to study at AIM. These scholarships are available for students who demonstrate:

    • high academic achievement and/or,
    • highly talented in the performance or creative arts area and/or
    • strong leadership qualities and/or
    • strong community-based involvements.

      Eligibility and Evidence

      Applicants must have undertaken study in a program equivalent to an Australian Year 12 study or higher.

      Applicants must be commencing an AIM degree program in 2021.

      Each applicant will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

      • Academic Merit
      • Leadership and/or Musical qualities
      • Extra-curricular, community-based activities
      • Aptitude and commitment to studying and completing a degree at AIM.

      Commitment to supporting, developing and contributing to better social outcomes in the music and creative arts community as well as the community within the scope of the scholarship sub-category.

      Selection

      Applicants will be considered by the Scholarship Selection Panel. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.

      A letter of Recommendation or referee from a school or community representative is advised for all applicants.

      Amount

      $4,500 distributed for tuition only equally across 3 study periods.

      Description

        Description

        Available for current students who would like to be involved with internal projects such as peer mentoring, marketing and promotional activities etc.

        Eligibility and Evidence

        Students who are currently enrolled at AIM. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to supporting, developing and contributing to better social outcomes for AIM students and the wider music and creative arts community. 

        Selection

        Applicants will be considered by the Scholarship Selection Panel. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.

        A letter of recommendation from community representative, AIM representative or school is advised for all applicants.

        How to Apply

        Description

        Available for students who have experienced adversity in life.

        Eligibility and Evidence

        Applicants must be domestic students who identify as coming from either: a low socio-economic environment and, or; suffering a chronic health condition and/or; having a disability and/or; having endured general hardship or adversity.

        Selection

        Applicants will be considered by the Scholarship Selection Panel. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.

        A letter of recommendation from a health practitioner, community representative or school is advised for all applicants.

        Number of Scholarships per Year

        Tuition: payable in three consecutive equal instalments of $750

        Bursary: payable in one single amount of $750

        Available to disadvantaged students from the LGBTIQA+ community.

        Eligibility and Evidence

        Applicants must:

        • Have Identified as LGBTIQA+
        • Have demonstrated commitment to the LGBTIQA+ community
        • Have demonstrated disadvantage
        • Be Commencing an AIM degree program in 2021.

        Selection

        Applicants will be considered by the Scholarship Selection Panel. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.

        A Letter of Recommendation or referee from appropriate organisation or school is advised for all applicants.

        Tuition: payable in three consecutive equal instalments of $875.

        Bursary: payable in one single amount of $875

        Description

        Available to students who are Australian citizens and who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent.

        Eligibility and Evidence

        Applicants must be an Indigenous Australian or Torres Strait Islander and provide confirmation of Aboriginality to AIM

        Commencing an AIM degree program in 2021.

        Selection

        Applicants will be considered by the Scholarship Selection Panel. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.

        A letter of Recommendation or referee from Indigenous leader or representative is advised for all applicants.

        Number of Scholarships per Year

        Amount

        $4,500. 

        Distribution

        Tuition: payable in three consecutive equal instalments of $1,125.

        Bursary: payable in one single amount of $1,125

        Description

        Available for Alumni and/or their immediate family members once they have completed a Bachelors or Master degree at AIM. 

        Eligibility & evidence required: 

        • Completion of a Bachelor or Master degree at AIM

        Amount: 

        • 15% of total fees

        Selection Process: 

        Each applicant will be assessed on;

        • Academic merit, leadership and/or musical qualities
        • Extra-curricular activities 
        • Aptitude and commitment to studying and completing a degree at AIM
        • Commitment to supporting, developing and contributing to better social outcomes in the music and creative arts community as well as the community within the scope of the scholarship category.

        HOW TO APPLY FOR A PRE-EXISITING SCHOLARSHIP 

        Each scholarship application is reviewed by the scholarship committee prior to the commencement of each study period. To be eligible for reveiw, an applicant must accept their place in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
