The Australian Institute of Music is proud to announce the appointment of Paul Zahra as an independent Chair of its Board of Directors, beginning in January 2019.

 

Paul brings a wealth of experience to the board and for over 30 years has been a leading force in the Australian Retail Industry with roles that have included Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Australian ASX 200 Company, David Jones Limited as well as senior leadership roles at Target Australia and Officeworks Superstores.

An alumnus of Stanford University in the United States, Paul also has significant experience in areas of leadership, diversity and inclusion, transformational change and digital disruption.

 

Along with the rest of the Board of Directors, Paul’s responsibilities will include providing oversight of the strategic direction for the future of AIM. Additionally, he will provide strategic advice that will enable AIM to achieve its international ambition of being one of the premium music schools in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

Paul’s connection to the creative industries is strong and his recent advocacy as a powerful champion for diversity and inclusion in the workplace is an advantage for the AIM community. Paul has also led numerous high profile LGBTI campaigns and initiatives. In February 2016, he was appointed Chair of The Pinnacle Foundation, a not-for-profit which provides scholarships and mentoring to disadvantaged LGBTI youth in Australia. In 2016, he was appointed the Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Board for professional services firm, PwC. He is also the Chair of the FutureYou Advisory Executive Program. Paul is also a Non-Executive Director of several private companies.

 

Paul will be joining current Board of Directors members:

 

Professor Marie Carroll (Deputy Chair, Director and Chair of the AIM Academic Board)

 

Professor Carroll has overseen the redevelopment of the AIM curriculum and futuristic pedological approach to the teaching of creative arts. She provides oversight to ensure strong academic governance and has provided strong guidance to ensure AIM is considered a best practice education provider for student participation.

 

Maria Amato (Director and Chair of AIM Creative Industries Advisory Board)

 

Maria is the General Manager and CFO of the Australian Independent Record Association (AIR) and has ensured that the curriculum and teaching at AIM is aligned with modern industry thinking with a focus on ensuring that the curriculum provides AIM graduates with the flexibility to pursue multiple employment opportunities.

 

 

Graham Hurwitz (Director)

 

With over 30 years’ experience in the Accountancy profession, Graham provides oversight of financial management within AIM and works to ensure that all financial processes are held to a high standard as well as being transparent. Graham also represents AIM’s major shareholder.

 

Athalie Calvo (Director)

 

Athalie has been with AIM since it’s inception and provides continuity with founder Dr Peter Calvo’s vision. Athalie has seen the school develop from its early stages as a VET provider to a fully accredited higher education provider, delivering a range of opportunities that focus on quality and providing students with the highest standards of teaching.
