Get ready to be blown away by some extraordinarily talented young’uns.
At the start of 2017, John Morrison – a renowned musician and Australian Institute of Music (AIM) ambassador – held the final auditions for an exciting new project: AIM’s very own Studio Youth Orchestra (SYO). Over the past few years, John’s been keeping an eye on NSW’s rising music stars, with the idea of forming one brilliantly talented group. And he’s done it. Nineteen students from NSW state schools have been selected as members of AIM’s SYO, aged from 14 to 18. They’ve all studied AMEB-grade level music, and many have been recognised with accolades and awards within their school music programs. Five of the members are regular participants with NSW Performing Arts Unit’s Advanced Ensemble Program, a part of the School Spectacular Orchestra. Well done, John. The sky’s the limit for this lot. Get ready for some amazing performances throughout the year, including the 40th Annual Manly Jazz Festival in October, 2017.
