Explore music composition basics in this beginner to intermediate short course program. Composition 1 will introduce you to compositional techniques used across a variety of genres and will unlock your creativity and music making confidence.

Course content covered includes common song structures, chord progressions, scales, motif structures and rhythmic tools.

A laptop computer is recommended.

 

Course Outcomes

At the completion of this course, students should be able to recognise common song structures, understand scales and their use in melody and motif writing, recognise common chord progressions and rhythmic patterns used in music, including a basic understanding of common time signatures.
