With more than fifty years’ experience in the music and entertainment industry, Molly Meldrum is a true powerhouse of success and creativity.
And we were lucky enough to recently host him at our Melbourne campus.
On March 23rd
2017, Molly sat down with The Coach Couch in our funky Melbourne campus’s Peter Calvo Auditorium for an intimate one-time-only interview.
After a slightly delayed start (several Uber drivers rejected Molly’s dog Ziggy – don’t they know who Molly Meldrum is?!), Molly discussed his incredible and compelling life story with The Coach Couch’s Alanna Deutrom in front of AIM students, staff, and members of the public.
Also in attendance was Michael Gudinski of Mushroom Group and the iconic Mushroom Records.
And (as if the event could have gotten any more exciting) one of our AIM graduates Lucy Travis – aka the very talented Rya Park – performed some original songs before the evening began.
One attendee said, “Listening to Molly’s unbelievable stories and hearing how he got into journalism was very entertaining. He’s an Aussie icon.”
Molly’s biggest piece of advice for aspiring journalists was to “listen, listen, listen. Don’t say too much, don’t interrupt, and don’t force yourself to stick with pre-prepared questions.”
And his advice for budding musicians and artists was to “focus on the song. The importance of the song can’t be underestimated – otherwise, who cares about the artist or video or CD cover?”
After the event, Alanna from The Coach Couch said, “It’s been so special working alongside AIM to bring this event to life. Their passion for their students really shines through in everything they do, giving them opportunities to learn, grow and pursue a career in music. We look forward to bringing more of Australia’s biggest names in music to AIM.”
The Coach Couch creates events that inspire people to reach for their dreams. Each event has a different focus: entertainment and music, innovation and entrepreneurship, and much more. No matter what industry you’re aiming for, The Coach Couch can give you a little insight into what it takes to get there.
