AIM group Three Wishez have exceeded expectations by making it to the final 4 on Channel Seven’s X Factor.
The trio, which is made up of Joseph 23, Sophia 21 and Fred 18, formed Three Wishez a month before the first auditions in April.
“It is such a privilege to be part of the final 4,” says Sophia. “Our goal was to be in the top 6, but we’ve achieved more than we expected by being part of the top 4.”
All three members of the group have always wanted to be in the music industry. “It’s been our dream ever since we were little kids,” says Sophia. And all three members share a common goal and it’s the story behind their name. “We all have one wish and each of our wishes is to be musicians so together its three wishes.”
Joseph, Sophia and Fred all studied Contemporary Performance at AIM. “What I enjoyed the most about AIM was learning music theory and going back to the foundations of how music is constructed,” says Sophia.
Urban/dance best describes the music and performances of Three Wishez, who wooed the judges with their audition song, the Eminem classic Love the Way you Lie, featuring Rihanna. Each member of Three Wishez writes songs and they plan to start writing collectively in the future. Their musical influences include Black Eyed Peas, Jessie J, Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown and John Legend.
The X Factor experience was not a totally new one for Joseph, who was a top 12 finalist on Australian Idol back in 2006. While he enjoyed his time on the show, Joseph says he was too young to capitalise on the experience. “It happened really quickly and I was much younger. I didn’t know how to take it all in. I wasn’t ready for it, but I feel ready now.”
Joseph prefers working as part of a group as opposed to performing solo, and it was his suggestion to form Three Wishez. “On my own, I don’t feel there’s enough. It’s so much better working with other people who share your passion,” says Joseph.
Although each member of Three Wishez is quite different – Joseph is quiet, Sophia is fierce and Fred is the cheeky one, all three share a profound love of music. “Music has long been a passion for each of us,” says Sophia. “It’s something we’ve done all our lives.”
With the success of X Factor, Three Wishez plans to continue gigging and hopefully release a single by the end of the year. “We’re all pretty versatile,” says Sophia about each member of Three Wishez. “We have a rapper, a girl singer, a guy singer and we’re pretty multicultural as well.” |
