Rock The Schools Music Workshops

Logitech Rock the Schools announces band line up for 2011 - the biggest tour yet!

Australia’s longest running free education and entertainment tour, Logitech Rock the Schools has announced three emerging bands to perform across 90 high schools in 2011.  This year’s exciting line up includes: Adelaide pop band; Delamare, Melbourne pop-rock band; Red Ink and Sydney Northern Beaches rock band; Feeding Edgar.

As the only initiative of its kind in Australia, Logitech Rock the Schools aims to bridge the gap between the music industry and teenagers, providing an access all areas view to the industry while exciting and inspiring the next generation of music professionals at a grass-roots level.

As part of this FREE initiative the Australian Institute of Music facilitates two and a half hours of workshops plus we bring up and coming Australian Rock bands into school halls and transform the venue into a Live Rock Gig! Bands that have previously toured include Finabah, Cassette Kids, Operator Please, Amy Meredith and Dash and Will.

In 2011, Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, Peter Garrett continues his support of Logitech Rock the Schools. “Rock the schools is an inspiring program that supports emerging artists and educates students about the career opportunities that exist within the music industry. It is the only program of its kind within schools around Australia that offers such a comprehensive musical experience - it rocks!” said Minister Garrett, entering his 4th year as Patron of Rock the Schools.

Delamare has toured around Australia several times supporting some of Australia’s best loved bands including; The Presets, Pete Murray, Faker, Operator Please, The Getaway Plan and The Hot Lies, gaining a plethora of fans along the way. Delamare will be kicking off the tour at high schools across New South Wales from May 2, and taking it through to Canberra and Victoria until May 27.

Pop-rock band Red Ink will continue the tour after a massive 2010 where their hit song ‘Catching a Killer’ was a favourite on Australian radio and music television. The band has also been making waves, playing at festivals across the country including, Pyramid Rock Festival, Stereosonic, Playground Weekender, One Movement and Festival of the Sun. Red Ink will be rocking out with high school students across Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales from May 30 to July 1.

"We're stoked to be part of the Logitech Rock the Schools tour this year! With a bunch of rad tracks set to come out this year, we can’t wait to give you guys a sneak peak before everyone else! It's gonna go off; so come party!" Red Ink said.

Next on the tour will be Feeding Edgar who will be performing throughout NSW and Queensland from July 19 to August 30. The Northern Beaches rock act placed second in the Triple J Unearthed charts and their song ‘Foot to the Floor’ is promising big things after plenty of radio airplay.

The fourth and final band on the tour will be the lucky winner of the Nova ‘I Am With The Band’ competition, which is a nationwide search to unearth Australia’s hottest new act. Supported by the Australian Government’s National Drugs Campaign, the competition kicked off on February 7 and will close on March 13. The winning band receives $10,000 worth of airtime on Nova, mentoring by Sony Music and a full day recording session at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM), the official educational partner of the Logitech Rock the Schools tour.

The lucky winners who are selected by public vote, also get the once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of the 2011 Logitech Rock the Schools and will be touring schools in Western Australia from September 5 to 23, completing the 2011 program.

Coming on board as the naming rights partner for the first time is lifestyle brand, Logitech, who will be heavily involved throughout the tour, promoting the power of quality sound in the music industry and within the schools. Logitech will be supporting these 3 bands by giving two members of each band custom-made Ultimate Ear monitors, as used live on stage by some of the world's greatest musicians. This is just one example of the audio quality for music and musicians that Logitech will be showcasing during the tour.

The Australian Institute of Music is proud to be returning as the official education partner of Rock the Schools for the second year. Each school gets three hands-on music education sessions —the first of which is a Live Sound Workshop which will take them through the mind of a Front of House engineer. They will also learn some tips and tricks from a studio engineer in the Pro Tools Masterclass. The final session is the Music Industry workshop, which gives students valuable information to help them get started on a career in the music business.

Also returning as a major sponsor of the tour for a second year is the Australian Government's National Drugs Campaign. In support of Australian music and the nurturing of emerging talent, the National Drugs Campaign is a major sponsor of the Nova I am with the Band promotion and the Rock It! category of the National Talent Competition during this year's National Youth Week. These activities provide an ideal platform for educating young Australians about the risks and harms of illicit drug use.
