Australian Institute of Music graduate Antonia Gauci is following her dream of working in the music industry by securing an Editor’s job at FBi Radio.
Antonia studied a Bachelor of Music majoring in Audio Technology at AIM and graduated in 2010. “I went into the course with very basic knowledge in audio, so having access to Q Studios at AIM allowed me to practice what I was being taught. I was constantly booking sessions/assisting on student recordings, trying to learn as much as I could from everyone associated with the audio department, and everyone was more than happy to help out which was fantastic,” explains Antonia. “AIM also allowed me to start networking early, and today I continue to work with teachers/graduates on various projects within the industry.”
The job at FBi Radio came about after Antonia volunteered her services at the beginning of the year for the radio’s Saturday show, All The Best. “In my role as Editor, I work with series producers, and the All The Best team to create content that is then broadcast on FBi. So I help clean up audio, do a lot of editing, mixing, record narration/interviews, source music and create appropriate soundscapes for the larger documentary pieces being produced for the show. I essentially turn the ideas into the final product.”
FBi is a music, arts and culture station in Sydney. Through short form documentaries, interviews, fictions and factual accounts, All The Best illustrates the greatness of greater Sydney – from Mount Druitt to Manly, and Blacktown to Bellevue Hill.
Antonia has always been involved in performing arts/music and knew from a young age she wanted a creative career. “It wasn't, however, until I accidentally found an ad for AIM in year 12 that I decided on the music industry.
“Since graduating from AIM, I'm surprised that I've already completed some of the long-terms goals which I set for myself – such as working on successful studio albums, music videos, TV, film, radio etc,” says Antonia.
Antonia has several projects coming up, including a sound recordist gig for a TV pilot/series, an album release in early 2012 (Last Dinosaurs – In a Million Years), in which Antonia was the Assistant Engineer, and continuous freelance work and projects with FBi Radio.
“My ultimate goal is to keep working in recording studios, and maybe one day reach the impossible and own my own studio. I want to continue working my way up in the industry, continue learning and producing/recording music. It's going to be hard, but it will also be extremely rewarding.” |
