Unit Description: The unit introduces students to the concept that excellence in vocal performance is achieved when the singer has the body awareness of a dancer, the imagination of an actor and the ear of a musician. Students examine the human body as a musical instrument, develop an understanding of the mind and its connection to muscular response and consolidate listening skills.

The unit lays the foundations for healthy vocal practices. The unit develops the concept that the singing voice is developed via the flexibility of the articulators or via the language. The unit will acknowledge the singing voice as a tool for communication. Learnt skills will be practiced in the form of warm-up exercises and appropriate repertoire.

Masterclass is a performance opportunity in which students workshop their repertoire, identify technical challenges and develop performance skills and confidence. Students are able to join in class discussion offering constructive feedback to fellow students. The class encourages students to be creators and innovators. The students will develop scripts, produce vocal arrangements, develop their songwriting skills, direct and stage their own works. The class will be held in the concert hall allowing students to explore staging along with production elements such as lighting and sound.

The student will have weekly a one hour individual voice lesson, a half hour coaching lesson and a one and a half hour Masterclass.
