Entry Requirements Post Graduate

Graduate Certificate Music - Graduate Diploma of Music - Master of Music



POSTGRADUATE AWARDS IN MUSIC

Candidates may enter the Graduate Certificate of Music under various arrangements, such as:

·         from a Bachelor degree, with relevant professional practice experience if from a non-music degree ;

·         from an Advanced Diploma, Diploma or higher-level vocational Certificate together with extensive relevant work experience, or

·         on the basis of extensive relevant work experience demonstrating potential to undertake study at this level.

Students applying for admission to the Graduate Certificate of Music are required to meet the following criteria:

·         undertake a performance audition and interview with a senior staff member (normally the Head of Division/Department). The interview has the primary purpose of assessing specialist skills and also provides AIM with an opportunity to address attitudinal and cultural aspects of the applicant and an opportunity for an applicant to address particular issues regarding study at AIM;

  • demonstrate they are capable of handling postgraduate level studies;

Overseas Students must possess IELTS 6.5 overall with a 6.0 in writing or an equivalent English language competency. The IELTS cannot be more than 2 years old from the commencement of the course.

Candidates may enter the Graduate Diploma of Music under various arrangements, such as:

·      from a Bachelor degree, with relevant professional practice experience if from a non-music degree.

·         from a Bachelor degree followed by a Graduate Certificate completed to a satisfactory standard, in a nested arrangement within the coursework Masters degree;

·         from an Advanced Diploma, Diploma or higher-level vocational Certificate with additional relevant work experience, often following completion of a Graduate Certificate;

  • on the basis of extensive relevant prior experience demonstrating potential to undertake work at this level, usually following completion of a Graduate Certificate.

Students applying for admission to the Graduate Diploma of Music are required to meet the following criteria:

  • possess either
    • an accredited Bachelor with Honours degree in music; or
    • a Graduate Diploma in Music; or
    • a Masters degree in a related area.
  • undertake a performance audition and interview with a senior staff member (normally the Head of Faculty). The interview has the primary purpose of assessing specialist skills and also provides AIM with an opportunity to address attitudinal and cultural aspects of the applicant and an opportunity for an applicant to address particular issues regarding study at AIM;

·         demonstrate they are capable of handling postgraduate level studies.

Applicants are asked to provide evidence of prior studies. All supporting documents submitted with the application must be certified copies of the original. These transcripts will be verified to ensure they are either AQF recognised for domestic applications or via the NOOSR register for international applicants. If there is any suspicion of fraudulent credentials or misrepresentation, original documents and education provider contacts will be investigated. Where a candidate may not have any formal qualifications, a portfolio and resume will be required. This will need to list at least two referees who are able to verify the contents of the portfolio and resume.

Applicants are advised by mail of their interview date and specific requirements.
