AIM Australian Institute of Music

Mature Age Entry

It's never too late to start studying

Mature Age Entry

The Australian Institute of Music allows mature age entry to all award courses. Mature Age Entry is designed to help people gain entrance to the Institute for the first time. It is not an avenue for those who have already demonstrated that ability. Mature-Age Entry is a formal admission process; being of ‘mature age’ alone does not automatically qualify an applicant for entry. Applicants are considered under mature age entry if they:

  • are at least 21 years of age by 1 January of the year they intend to study; and

  • have undertaken a formal AIM audition.

Mature Age entrants who do not possess the necessary secondary qualifications and have not demonstrated sufficient skills to undertake tertiary study may be required to either:

  • undertake a Personal Competencies Assessment; or

  • complete a program of study in a recognized preparatory course (eg Certificate III in Music, NSW TAFE Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation); or

  • complete an approved program of study in Open AIM.
