Certificate II in Music Industry Foundation



This course is available to Year 11 and 12 senior secondary students as a VET Board Endorsed Course.

Course Length: 2 semesters (24 weeks)

The Certificate II in Music Industry (Foundation) CUS20101 is drawn from the Music Industry Training Package, and is accredited by the Vocational Education and Training Board (VETAB).

The course is divided into two streams:

  • Performance, or
  • Audio Engineering

The units studied are as follows:

Performance Stream:

  • Instrumental Major
  • Performance Studies/ Rhythm lab
  • Music Technology
  • Music Industry Studies
  • Theory & Aural Ensemble
  • Concert Practice

Audio Engineering stream:

  • Recording Technology
  • Audio Technology
  • Program Analysis Music Technology
  • Music Industry
  • Studies Audio
  • Concert Practice

Typically the course attracts music-minded students keen to pursue either performance or Audio Engineering.  We are able to offer the resources and expertise from within the Institute, including Q studios (originally Rhino Studios).  Students then have the option of staying on to further their studies in diploma or degree programs, or embark upon a music-based career with some solid foundation skills.

The Certificate II program is delivered on campus and in the studio in workplace simulated conditions over one calendar year (120 indicative hours for the 2unit course).  This articulates into the Certificate III program delivered in Year 12, and contributes 4 units to the HSC (in either the HSC or Preliminary year).

Entry requirements: Interview
