Requirements for all Higher Education Awards
AUDITION/INTERVIEW for ALL DEGREE & DIPLOMA COURSES
Students applying for any degree or diploma course at AIM are required to undertake an audition and/or interview to assess skills and aptitude to study. The audition process also allows AIM to assess potential and to advise on the most appropriate course of study. The applicant also has the opportunity to ask specific questions regarding study at AIM.
Below is a summary of what is required for each department:
- Please see specific audition requirements for more detailed information.
- Entertainment Management: An interview to demonstrate aptitude and communication skills. UAI required = 70.
- Audio Technology: An interview to demonstrate aptitude and communication skills.
- Composition: Submission of a folio of creative work and an interview to demonstrate aptitude and communication and musical skills.
- Performance (Classical, Contemporary & Music Theatre): An audition to assess performance skills, and an interview to demonstrate aptitude, communication skills and music theory knowledge.
Overseas or interstate applicants are required to send a DVD of their performance in lieu of a live audition. A phone interview may also be required.
Supporting Documents and Previous Studies
Applicants are expected to have completed the NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent and are asked to provide evidence of prior studies. All supporting documents submitted with the application must be certified copies of the original, and AIM reserves the right to contact the issuing organisation for verification purposes. Where a mature-aged applicant does not have secondary education qualifications or equivalent qualifications the applicant will be required to undertake a literacy assessment. Domestic students wishing to use VET qualifications as equivalence to NSW HSC, must have completed full time study of no less than 2 years in an accredited Certificate IV level course or higher.
For all students whose previous education had not been conducted in English: a minimum IELTS Overall Band Score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent English assessment.
The IELTS cannot be more than 2 years old from the commencement of the course.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Candidates who have documentary evidence of study at a recognised institution may apply to have subjects credited towards their course. Applicants should advise AIM at the time of audition and/or interview if they wish to seek credit for previous relevant studies from a recognised institution. A recognised institution is any institution currently accredited by the Australian government. Applicants are advised by mail of their audition date and specific requirements.
If Unsuccessful:
If a student is not successful in the audition for the Bachelor of Music course, counselling and/or a second audition may be arranged to determine the best possible strategy for assisting the student to achieve their academic aspirations. This may involve being offered a place in our Diploma of Music course. It is possible for Diploma students to transfer into the Bachelor of Music, based on their progress and results.
