You may copy
Under the Statutory Education License, for educational purposes only;
- 10% of number of pages or one chapter if hardcopy original.
- 10% of words if using an electronic original.
- 10% of a piece of music or score (including individual songs in compilation books)
- All of an item in an anthology, up to fifteen pages.
- One article from a journal or more than one article if the subject matter is the same.
- The whole of an artistic work if it illustrates or accompanies text or music copied, or if it cannot be separately purchased.
- The whole of a work if that work cannot be obtained within a reasonable time (textbooks 6months / other works 30 days) at an ordinary commercial price.
Copying music Students and staff are not permitted to copy more than 10% of a piece of sheet music. This includes individual songs in compilation books.
Whilst the library endeavours to provide a wide range of sheet music for loan students may need to purchase their own copies of music for use throughout the term or for performances and examinations. Lecturers may recommend useful books of ‘Standards’ for students to purchase. Most sheet music can be obtained at reasonable prices from the web for instant download with options to buy individual pieces as well as collections or books – see some example websites below.

Alternatively you can order sheet music in print from local music shops. If you need help with finding a piece or with copyright please speak to the librarian.
CDs / DVDs Commerical CDs and DVDs provided by the library must not be copied.
