Julia Mitford, Librarian Julia arrived at AIM in April 2009 from a cutting edge public music library in the UK called ExploreMusic. Julia was brought up as a singer on the North East of England’s vibrant folk music scene and after studying for a Diploma in Jazz, Pop and Commercial Music Performance she then went on to graduate with Honors in Information and Library Management from the University of Northumbria.
Julia’s first taste of the world of gainful employ was at The Sage Gateshead, a world class centre for music performance and education where she was initially an arts administrator, song leader and web editor. Julia went on to become Manager of Gateshead Council Libraries new hi-tech music library service, ExploreMusic, located in The Sage Gateshead, where she spent 4 years developing a facility which thrived on using new technologies and providing excellent customer service.
Julia is still singing – now with a cappella choir The Cleftomaniacs. She is also the Vice Chair of the Public Libraries Branch of the International Association of Music Libraries (IAML)
Robert Egan Rob has been a member of AIM staff for four years, spending most of his time in Student Services, and now also providing support in the Library. He is currently studying a Diploma of Library and Information Services through Ultimo TAFE and has just over a year to complete.
When asked about his passion for music Rob said “I love music, but unfortunately cannot play anything (though I am working on it).” What Rob claims to lack in musical talents he certainly makes up for in music knowledge and helping students find their way around the library collection.
