All students undertake academic studies at AIM, comprising Foundation Studies (theory and history) and Aural Training. With the foundations in place, students can then take on a range of Critical Studies subject areas to suit their personal interests and shape their career path. These studies contain units such as;

- A Survey of the Arts and Entertainment Industry
- History of Culture, Arts and Idea
- Music Materials and Techniques
- Critical Film Studies and more
