Registering For Classes


What is Registration?

Registration is when you select your units for the coming Semester. It has to be done every semester and it is how your tuition fees are calculated.

What electives can I do?
Students select Associated Studies as electives. Please see your Head of Department or Coordinator for Associate Studies options. An 'enrolment pack' will be available soon.

What is Census Date?

Census Date is the last day you are able to make changes to your registration in a semester. After census date you cannot make any changes to your registration and all course fees will apply for that semester.

MyAIM: Online Services

How do I log on to the website?

Login to the student page or go here and click on MyAIM. Your user name is your Student Number, your password is your date of birth in reverse (i.e. YYYYMMDD) if you have any further problems with your student Log In, see Student Services in building A.

Timetable

Can I change my timetable? 

Yes, you can either change units or change a class for a unit however, you must consult your Head of Department or Coordinator.

How do I find my timetable on the web site?
Login to the student page or go here and click on MyAIM Student services can assist you with locating you timetable on the web site as well as any other online student issues.

Can I organise a day off?

We do our best to give you the most time economical timetable possible. Most times it is possible to organise your classes to have at least one day off.

Financial Assistance


How do I apply for a scholarship?

Scholarship Application forms are available from Student Services. Scholarships are competitive for more information go to the Student Handbook at [web reference for handbook] or download the scholarship application form here

Is there government assistance?
AIM is Austudy approved, you can contact Centerlink for more information.

Classes

I don’t like my teacher, can I be moved to another class/lesson?

If you have any problems with teachers or other students please contact your Head of Department or a Coordinator ASAP to discuss.

I don’t want to take a particular class anymore, can I withdraw without penalty?
You can withdraw from a class if you feel it is not for you. You will need to withdraw from the class before Census Date. Before changing a class, go to your Head of Department or Coordinator to discuss the changes.

I want to defer some/all of my course to a later date, what do I do?
Same process to withdrawal as long as you change your registration before Census Date you will not incur a penalty.
 
How can I catch up if I fall behind?
The worst thing to happen is for you to fall behind in class. If you feel like things aren’t making sense see your Head of Department of Coordinator they will assist you with your studies.

Where can I get copies of the course material?
The Library keeps all our printed material, for any course information such as recommended texts please see Justine in the AIM Library. Unit outlines are also available online by logging-in to the website.

Where do I find a unit outline?
After you log in using your MyAim Log in, locate the tabs on the left hand side of the page, click on 'My Enrolments'. From here you can select any unit outline for which you registered.

Attending Class

I was absent from a lesson, what do I do?

Absences for medical reasons must be supported by a medical certificate. You will need to present Medical Certificates for any absences. If you know you will be absent for any other reason please see your Head of Department or Coordinator.

Who do I give my medical certificates to?
Medical Certificates need to be handed into Student Services in A Building, be sure to make a copy for your records.

I need to be absent for part of this semester, what do I do?
If you need to be absent for part of a semester for reasons that would be helpful to your career (you need to go on tour) or personal reasons please see your Head of Department or a Coordinator. AIM is always supportive of students careers.

Student Council

What does the Student Council do?

The Student Council is your voice. This is forum for organising social activities, general student concerns to the AIM management and working towards improving the AIM experience. One of the most popular Student Council activities are band nights where students can enjoy performing and getting to know each other.

Who is on the student council?
All departments have a representative on the Student Council. Elections are held at the beginning of the year.
