AIM High News Update

Welcome back to Term 2
For students sitting your HSC this year, this is your final opportunity to enjoy life at school. Next term will be run at a frenetic pace with trials and examinations, so use this opportunity to consolidate your knowledge. Don’t waste a moment of this precious time.

For students in year 11, you should be feeling comfortable in your surrounds and enjoying the many offerings at this great institution. If you haven’t checked out a tertiary class, come and see me and I’ll organize it. If you would like to see a concert, the Showcase is coming up featuring students from every department (including HSC). Go to Showcase for more details.

There are some changes that affect all students so please read everything in this newsletter very carefully.
It will affect you in some way.

I wish you a happy term 2.

Most certificate subjects start this week with the exception of Music Technology and Concert Practice which will start next week.

Rhythm Lab
will be on this Wednesday morning. I would like to welcome Andy Walton who will be working with me in taking this subject.

Wednesday 9-11 Performance Studies year 11 in room C426.

If you don’t know where these rooms are, they are up the stairs in building C and straight ahead.

Music Technology
classes start next week and have changed very slightly. They are as follows:
Monday class 1-2 for year 12’s. Same time
Tuesday class 1-2 for year 11’s. Same time
Thursday class 1-2 for year 12’s. Same time.
The Friday class for year 11’s now moves to Wednesdays. If you were in the Friday class you are now in the Wednesday class.

Study Group
This is now being run by Kirsty on a Monday evening from 5-7 PM every week.
Whilst attendance is not compulsory, you are encouraged to attend to get help in any areas where you may be experiencing troubles. I will often be there as well. It is a great opportunity to get individual help.

External Subjects
Because of the large group of students doing an external HSC course, I have appointed Kirsty to be the coordinator of External Subjects. All weekly timetables (library work) must now be given to Kirsty and she will keep a roll of attendance. You are to also meet with her individually to discuss your assessment/task schedule. Please also bring with you the details of your external supervisor (name and phone number). You must organize a time with her by the end of this week. This includes all Chinese and Japanese students doing Saturday school.

Smoking
There is to be no smoking for any HSC students out in front of the building. AIM’s HSC no smoking policy also extends to the immediate vicinity.

Mid Year Concert
Every year AIM HIGH students put on a mid year concert. This year every student will be participating by either performing, operating sound, lights, stage managing and stage directing. It will form part of your assessment for Concert practice.
The date has not been finalised, but I urge you all to consider the role you would like to play in this event over the next week. This will be discussed further next week at Concert Practice.

Pupil Free Days
There was some confusion surrounding the start of term 2 for some students.
To alleviate this, the following dates should be placed in your diaries:
Term 3 2008 will commence on Monday the 21st July.
Term 4 2008 will commence on Tuesday the 14th October.

ReportsYear 12 reports are due out today. Please remember to give them to your parents or guardians.
