MEET YOUR TEACHERS
TYRAN PARKE - Coordinator Music Theatre (Melb)
Tyran is considered one of the most exciting Directors/Actors/Teachers in the country. As an actor, he has played roles professionally in musicals, contemporary plays, television and Shakespeare.
As a teacher, he has worked for the National Institute of Performing Arts, (NIDA), The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) but it is at The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) that he has taught acting and directed productions for the past ten years.
Professional Directing credits include ‘Jekyll and Hyde’, ‘Sunday in the Park with George’, ‘Lovebites’, ‘Thom Pain’, Metro St’, ‘Cheek to Cheek’, ‘Pool (no water)’, ‘The Laramie Project’ , ’King of the World’,’ Stalker – the Musical’, ‘Great Expectations’, ‘The Goodbye Girl’, ‘Assassins’ (twice!), ‘Follies’, ‘Crossroads’ the national tour of “From Broadway to La Scala’, Rob Mills one man show and ‘Tapestry’ starring Debra Byrne and Vika Bull. The opera, ‘The Fairy Queen’, the Contemporary music showcase, ‘Live at the Apollo’ and the musicals ‘Into the Woods’ and ‘Rent’ were all directed at AIM.
Tyran is a passionate music theatre practitioner and is truly excited about bringing his experience to this exciting new course at AIM Melbourne.
NATALIE GAMSU - Singing & Masterclass Music Theatre (Melb)
Natalie Gamsu is a singer, actor and cabaret artist whose performances have been acclaimed in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Sydney and Johannesburg.
Born in Namibia, Natalie studied Drama at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. In South Africa, she established a strong following with her own solo cabaret shows, musical theatre, and the television series, The Big Time, (Best Actress in a TV series).
Some of Gamsu's theatre credits include Candide (Woman With One Buttock – Multiple Award Winner), Dr Zhivago (GFO), Mary Poppins, (Miss Andrew - Disney), Women Of Troy (director - Barry Kosky for Sydney Theatre Company), and most recently, she originated the role of Abuela in Baz Luhrman’s Strictly Ballroom (Global Creatures).
From 1992 until 2003, Natalie lived and worked in New York City, performing at the famous Oak Room, Fez and The Russian Tea Room. She won the Backstage Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist and a MAC Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist in 1997 and 2000. Her debut CD Weave also received a MAC nomination for Best New Recording.
Since moving to Australia in 2003, Natalie has performed in clubs in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth as well as at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. She continues to create her own one-woman shows, recently producing her second CD, Misfit.
Natalie also works on the large and small screens. Her most recent credits include the on-going role of Jan Barton in the long running Australian soap Neighbours, and the role of Fatima in the Feature Film, Ali’s Wedding, (Matchbox Films), due for release in 2017.
Her next project will be playing the part of Magda in the return season of the successful Australian musical Ladies In Black, directed by Simon Phillips. The musical will play Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and Canberra, starting in January 2017.
Natalie teaches voice and master classes in performance at AIM, and NIDA in Sydney and at APO and SHOWFIT and Melbourne as well as in her private studio in both cities.
