Southern Cross University is offering a Master of Teaching by Distance Education with two Curriculum Specialisation Units supported by tutorial delivery at AIM’s Sydney campus.

**Please Note: The Master of Teaching supported units delivered at AIM are only available to AIM Bachelor of Music graduates.

Southern Cross University’s Master of Teaching is a graduate-entry teacher qualification that prepares students to teach music in secondary schools. Professional experience placements are compulsory and embedded throughout the degree and there is an extended educational research project..

Music Major

Students select the Secondary stream to become a secondary school teacher in music.

Students who plan to teach in only one subject area in a secondary school, can select two elective units from topics that may include: social and emotional wellbeing; drugs, alcohol and sexual health; children's rights; children and the law; and children's protection and participation. Electives in other areas are by negotiation with the Course Coordinator.

Please note: All teaching subjects are offered by distance education, but attendance is expected at some on-campus workshops (except for Technology and Applied Studies).

Delivery - Music Specialisation

The core education units are delivered via Southern Cross University’s distance education (external) study mode, while the music specialisation units are supported by face-to-face tutorials at AIM. Southern Cross University’s distance education study option is highly interactive and promotes collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive online pre-recorded and/or live lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.

This is a Commonwealth supported course, although places are limited. Full fee paying positions are also available.
