Audio and Sound Engineering

Diploma of Music (Audio)

Qualification: Diploma of Music (Audio)

Overview:
The Diploma of Music majoring in Audio introduces students to the practical concepts of music, music production and sound engineering. Students are also introduced to the theoretical tools and techniques of sound and music production and acquire practical experience (in groups) in AIM's recording facilities. Students will also learn to collaborate with others in a music and production environment.

Duration
Four trimesters (15 months) full time. The maximum time for completion is 12 trimesters.

Majors:
All Diploma of Music students select a major when commencing the course. The major determines the set of units to be completed to qualify for the Diploma of Music.

Structure:
The Diploma of Music structure requires students to complete units from four groups of units:    

1. Major Studies - specialist units particular to the major
2. General Studies - units taken by all majors, consisting of musicianship, music theory and history subjects. Foundation Studies consist of history and theory classes that cover rudimentary and introductory knowledge.
3. Ensemble - taken by all majors, provide students with group performance knowledge and skills
4. Associated Studies - are units that support the student’s specialisation and include both mandated and elective units according to a particular major.
