AIM Senior Secondary College

The Australian Institute of Music Senior Secondary College (AIM SSC) is a dedicated Year 11 and 12 high school, catering for students who are serious about pursuing their goals in the performing arts industry.

AIM’s Senior Secondary College (SSC) teachers and leaders are committed to educating and inspiring students in the essential skills, knowledge and principles necessary for successful entry into adulthood, by providing secondary education with a focus on performing arts.
The lessons and qualities derived from study in music and performing arts (self-discipline, empathy, curiosity, and a constant drive for excellence) are critical to inspiring a lifelong passion for learning and self-growth.
And, most importantly, the values of openness, mutual respect and actively empowering students sit at the heart of everything we do at AIM SSC.
We empower our students by promoting their sense of self-belief, helping them realise their full potential, encouraging teamwork and mutual respect, and providing a safe, supportive environment. We deliver a mature approach to educational and extra-curricular activities by placing trust at the core of the teaching/learning process.
Our small class sizes encourage collaboration, foster positive relationships between staff and students, and allow students to receive more individualised learning experiences.
AIM SSC is fully accredited with the NSW Education Standard Authority (NESA no:20030) to deliver the NSW HSC.
AIM SSC is also a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code: 90465) governed by the Australian Skills and Qualifications Authority (ASQA) accredited to deliver Vocational Education Training (VET) in the form of the Certificate II in Music Industry (CUA20615). AIM’s Registered Provider CRICOS Number is 00665C. AIM’s Registered RTO Code is 90465.
Course Structure
Students can undertake a Preliminary Year (Year 11) and a Higher School Certificate (HSC) Year (Year 12).
They have the option of undertaking creative arts subjects combined with intensive music study – something which simply isn’t possible at other schools, thereby giving our students a unique advantage.
YEAR 11 – PRELIMINARY UNITS (12 credit pts)
In the Preliminary Year, students become familiar with the course structure, skills and content required to complete the HSC. Mornings are spent teaching NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) subjects; afternoons are focused on the Certificate II in Music Industry^ course.

YEAR 12 – HIGHER SCHOOL CERTIFICATE (10 credit points/3 terms)

They receive study periods to prepare for final assessments, and receive opportunities to perform in end-of-term musical productions, showcases and presentation ceremonies.
Certificate II in Music Industry CUA20615 (ASQA)
AIM SSC is a Registered Training Organisation accredited to deliver the Certificate II in Music Industry (CUA20615).
The Certificate in Music Industry is delivered alongside the HSC and provides tertiary foundation and industry skills for students. The Certificate course contains 6 modules of learning: Ensemble, Theory & Aural, Music Industry Studies, Music Technology, Masterclass and Concert Practice. Currently, students can choose from two streams: Music Performance (Classical or Contemporary) or Music Technology. This course runs in Year 11 Preliminary (Terms 1, 2 and 3), and in the first term of study in the HSC year (Term 4).
Our Teachers
All AIM SSC teachers are subject-specific experts with tertiary qualifications recognised by NESA, and many are experienced HSC Markers. They are some of the most accomplished professionals in the music and performing arts industry, and can equip students with the head-start needed for entering the next stage of their educational and/or professional careers.
Our Facilities
AIM SSC sits within our Sydney campus. Students have their own exclusive area separate from the AIM Music School which includes classrooms, lockers, dance/drama space, and digi-labs featuring Mac computers. Students also receive access to AIM’s on-campus recording studios, rehearsal rooms, dance studios, music library and cafeteria.

Our Pastoral Care
Our SSC Pastoral Care is integrated throughout the entire structural organisation to effectively meet the personal, social (wellbeing) and academic needs of students and staff. We monitor students’ overall progress, and offer unique Buddy Programs and Student Leadership Programs.

Entry Requirements

*Intensive English Language Program only applicable to International Students
We acknowledge that music is a global industry and that some of our potential students may come from countries where English is not their first language. For those students who do not meet the initial English language requirement to gain direct entry into one of our programs, they can improve their English language skills to the required level by enrolling in an intensive English Pathways Program and AIM SSC can suggest providers for this.
