The only reason I was even the slightest bit interested in the NRL grand final on Sunday was to watch mates and AIM alumni, Tabitha Ojeah and Kyle Mercado, performing to 81,000 people alongside the beautiful Jessica Mauboy in the pregame entertainment.
AIM Alumni Tabitha Ojeah (left/backing vocals) and Kyle Mercado (bass) have been performing with Jess for a while now and will be joining her on her 2 month long, ‘To The End of The Earth’ national tour, kicking off on 2nd November.
"I got into working with Jess through Beatiq which is run by Darryl Beaton (Darryl is Jess’ MD) and Kevin Mendoza. They provide music related services to artists including providing musicians, arranging and producing. I had done some work for them previously and they liked my work ethic and my voice. I had to be able to sing in harmony easily, blend with other voices, be able to pick up new parts fast and have a good attitude" explains Tabitha, who graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Contemporary) in Voice in 2011. The NRL grand final was the biggest audience that Tabitha and Kyle have ever performed in front of.
‘It was an amazing experience to walk out on the field and see thousands of people! It made it more special that Ricky Martin and his band were getting ready right next to us! I love supporting Jess at every gig. I couldn't even stay to watch the game, I had to rush to Manly Sea Eagles club to play for the fans and I got a huge shock when I realised all the players were coming for the after party and we had to be part of the fanfare. Driving to the gig, I was asked if I knew "Eagle Rock" by Daddy Cool. Lucky I learned it in primary school; I literally sang it all night!’
Jessica Mauboy’s To The End Of The Earth Tour dates will see Jess and her band hit all major metro and many regional centres across the country and will feature all her biggest hits including songs from The Sapphires and brand new songs from her forthcoming album.
